What is the specific problem with your AIWA I have few Aiwa PX257 and never had any problem with any of them. This model got better capacitor compare to most of other AIWA models. That's why I never had any capacitor leak with my Aiwa PX257 units. Obviously my collection of this model is limited to 3 and I cannot strongly recommend this model but I am guessing that your unit might work by changing the belt.
Hi, thanks for the question. I posted a tech question last night and managed, with help, to fix the problem. See - http://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/aiwa-px257-problem.8447/#post-65403 I'd managed to replace the drive belt which was a challenge (unsoldering the various connections, etc) but when reassembled the unit would not play. I found that I could get the motors to function if I depressed the tape detections switches inside the cassette compartment. Long story short, one of the contacts at the back of the switch was a little bent and just had to be judged back into place. The unit now works just great. This site contained lots of the advice I needed - very grateful. Phil
