Hello all I have a WMF8 and there is now no off position. I had opened my walkman because I got it with the ff and rew feature not working. I figured out the issue with that, but now I am facing the motor. I was unsure of how to properly disassemble it and tried to research how to but it seems near impossible to get any information on it. I have a few theories and I'll explain each of them and hopefully they make sense. Me being ignorant, I decided to give a little push to the (i am not sure of the name) part that turns the cassette to try and get it out of the case since I saw I took out all of the known screws. But as I did that, this tiny spring came out of somewhere from it and I do not have any clue as to where it could've came from and I have looked at the mechanism for hours trying to figure it out. I will see if I can provide a picture. Now for this, Ive been reading that walkmans have leaf switches that power the motor when its engaged to on. I have no clue of which walkmans have that and which dont, yet again, hard to find solid information on this thing. So I am guessing this spring would push back when you stop the cassette which disconnects the motor from a power source? Just my theory on that. Second take on it is that I tried to turn on the motor so that I can diagnose the ff and rew deal. Since at the time I did not know how to disassemble it, i was just working with the little slack that was in the wires to lift the board up a bit. The thing was, that when I titled up the board to see the mechanism, the motor would stop and no power would get to anywhere. I switched it to the radio and no light came on at all, nothing played, it was dead. I put everything back together and thought that apparently the board had to make contact with something in order for power to get to the motor cause thats how it seemed at first. Id put down the board and i noticed it made contact with this bracket type thing but now I dont have a clue. I say I dont have a clue because after lifting the board and the power leaving to china a few times, nothing worked. So I kept trying to get something going and then I finally got the motor on, but i noticed some smoke coming from a solder point near the fm st light, and battery light. I was not able to see where it exactly was or what it was but I turned it off immediately. After that, the motor stopped working for some time even when it was all assembled back together. Then like a few hours later I tried it again and it came on. ^ but see. It was me trying to fully disassemble it when that spring fell out. Which then caused the motor to not stop at all. The current state of my walkman right now: I put it all back together and I can play cassettes. Its just that when it is switched to cassette, the motors on. So there is no off position for it which leaves me no choice other than removing the batteries. It plays really well though. The radio too. Let me know what pictures to take to try and give a better overall view of it. I have no problem with disassembling it again. (My apologies i have to read how to add in pictures. Will post)
