I have a rq-sx1v. I got it completely dead. I open it up and clean it up. I installed a new belt and put it back together. When I installed the battery the radio automatically came on. Some of the buttons responded to being press and some didnt. The radio wont switch off to test the tape. I removed the tape and press in the switch and notice it went forward and backward for a few seconds and then stop. This seem to be a procedure to take up the slack in the tape. I open it back up and double check everything. Any idea will be highly appreciated. Thanks
You mentioned you cleaned it inside. Did you have a problem with battery leakeage on the PCB ? This walkman has the option to be used with a remote, so naturally comes the question: what type of jack are you using ? 3-pole or 4-pole ? To what load are you connecting the walkman ? It might not like high impedance loads (a.k.a. the input of another amplifier). The fact reels spin back and forth to take up the slack is normal, that's what it should do when you insert a cassette in. As for what you should check: - that the mode switch is properly aligned with the mechanism; - all the solder points: solenoid, tape in/EQ switches, motor; I will assume the belt has the proper thickness (0.5-0.6mm). If you bought the one from FixYourAudio, it's good. Which buttons are working and which don't ?
I will upload a pic of the circuit board. There was battery acid but not on the circuit board. I used a Samsung headset to test all my walkman. I was suppose to buy a pair of walkman speakers. I have open right now to inspect everything. I made sure I deoxit the ribbon connector and the mechanism switch. What I did notice was the part of the mechanism that suppose to move the switch side to side was not moving. I kept manually turning the motor in both direction but it won't move. The buttons that do work on the front are the hold switch, tps/+ button and mem sel/set
For the FWD/REV lever to move, you need to engage the solenoid first, otherwise the mechanism will freely rotate without engaging play mode. The PCB looks fine for the most part, although that battery positive terminal I would desolder, clean very well and re-solder it with fresh solder.
