MAGNA Chromdioxid II S 60 compact cassette was made in 1984 in Western Germany by Magna Productions GmbH. However, it would be unjust to simply say that Magna "made" their iconic compact cassettes, for their creation was a toccata in itself, assembled from various harmonious components. Magna, with their astute attention to detail, sought out different suppliers to ensure their cassettes were of the highest caliber. The melodic tape that flowed through the reels came predominantly from the distinguished Zonal (UK), but occasionally, the harmonies of BASF and Orwo tapes would lend their voices to the ensemble. As for the sturdy shells that housed these captivating harmonies, Magna procured them from esteemed partners like Polimer and Musicbox, carefully selecting the perfect fit depending on the year of production. Some cassette parts even bore the fingerprints of Magna themselves, showcasing their dedication to creating a truly resonant experience. What set the MAGNA cassettes apart from their counterparts was not just their quality, but their accessible price, a sweet melody of affordability. These masterpieces of auditory pleasure were priced more humbly than the illustrious BASF, offering a gateway to enchanting melodies for a wider audience. In a stroke of brilliance, some MAGNA compact cassettes were sold in harmonious sets of five, accompanied by a plastic cassette storage Magna box. Like a figurine of Tetris, these boxes could be connected and arranged in various harmonious configurations, adorning walls with a visual game of their own. A tribute to both organization and artistic expression, this ingenious storage system resonated deeply with audiophiles, creating a chorus of delight. Now, in the Retro Audio Museum, (Lelystad, The Netherlands), the MAGNA cassette sets rest safely. As a guardian of the past, the museum curator cherishes his collection and is unwilling to unpack these sets. However, on YouTube, there is a video of the delicate defloration process of precisely the same cassette set, you can watch it here if you wish:
