I am the proud owner of a Sony El-5 ELCASET deck. The sound is amazing.....just below my reel-to-reel decks. Everything works perfectly except the REWIND. It is NOT a belt. The button on the front lights up, but nothing happens. It might be a "solenoid" switch, that needs cleaning or replacement. I am located in New Jersey USA> Does anyone know of a repair guy who deals with ELCASETS?? Thanks to all, and I appreciate your acceptance into the Stereo2go forum community. Sieges9
There are a couple of aspects that one needs to be aware of before sending devices for repair to Dave from 12voltvids: - if you are located outside Canada and send the parcel through courier, there will be brokerage fees which he will not pay (parcel will be returned on your cost); It's something which he has stated in many of his YouTube videos, so it's to be kept in mind. - if the device will require parts that need to be purchased from outside Canada, it's very likely he won't buy those parts and deem the device a no fix. He also won't buy anything off ebay as he doesn't like the platform because of past negative experiences. This will greatly limit the repairs that can be performed, as even basic rubber parts which are readily available he will usually not buy. - in some circumstances where he deems the device a no fix, he might not send the device back and keep it for parts. Seen this in a few of his videos, including a TC-D5M in very good condition. While he might have had an agreement with the customers in these situations, he certainly did not state it in the videos. Of course it should be obvious that one should talk to him first and reach an agreement before sending any device for repair. That should be done with anyone.
Welcome to the forum Sieges9, cool deck, it sounds like you don't want to open it yourself? Repair people are getting harder and harder to find, there's a few old Sony Techs around here that might be able to help. Personally I'd pop the top and look around for loose wires from the switch, if you have a multi-meter you could see if the switch is working. It looks like that unit has two motors, one might not be working or not getting a signal to turn on. You probably have seen this thread on Tape Heads, grease everywhere with similar issues. https://www.tapeheads.net/threads/elaborating-my-first-elcaset-the-sony-el-7.70907/ Good luck!
