Hi all, does anyone have a photo of and/or the model number for the original AC adapter that came with the DC2? And if they are impossible to track down, is there a modern replacement? Thanks!
There are plenty replacements you can find out there, just make sure they don't give out more than 3V and they are centre negative.
BE VERY CAREFUL HERE! The DC2 uses the CX20084 motor control chip, which is easily destroyed by switch mode power supplies, as well as a reverse polarity connection. Do not buy some random plug top 3V power supply and plug it into your DC2 as you are quite likely to destroy the CX20084. Please see my posting regarding the ease with which this chip is destroyed: Sony WM-D6C and DD Series Walkmans - WARNING! Read this before plugging in any DC adaptor! Unless you are absolutely sure that the power supply is a linear type delivering 3V in the correct polarity, use batteries.
The EBP-500 would be a good solution: batteries in an external compartment, connected via the DC in jack
Good to know, thanks Deb. Does that include whatever the original adapter was that came with the DC2?
By now, they might be easy to obtain. The part number you can find in the service manual on the first page. I added the manual to the model info on https://walkman.land/sony/WM-DC2.
It is not possible to download the manual from this address...but there is a link to the site where it is located
Indeed. On WML we try to give credit where it is due, so it means that for the documents for which we have the sources, you need go there to download for offline use.
Wow, amazing! I had come across your site while researching this very question Thank you for solving this mystery for me, the adapters do indeed seem easy to locate
