Hi all! I'm new to this forum and decided to join because I have a passion for vintage radios and walkman. This is my issue: - sony walkman wm-af65 autoreverse works partially. This is what I have done before: - changed the belt - calibrated using 3Khz tone cassette - cleaned rollers and head - Play, frw and rev now working perfectly IF I don't have a tape in the walkman: - pressing green button, the auto reverse works fine for both directions. IF I put a cassette: - pressing auto reverse works fine (it will reverse as expected) - if I press another time, the auto reverse doesn't't reverse. All mechanism seems frozen, nothing turning. - I need to press stop and play again in order to work. I notice when it happens : the motor spins but the the belt not....as if something is not engaging. Like I said...works fine with no cassette but works 1/2 of the time if cassette. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Hello and welcome to the forum ! What I suggest is to check the takeup torque on both FWD and REV playback by hand. Put the walkman in play and stop the table reel with you hand. How much resistance do you feel when you stop the reel ? Is the resistnace equal on both FWD and REV ? There is a potential problem with old grease, especially on the idler gear that drives the takeup reel.
