    Hi everyone

Trying to repair an Alba PCD 414 CD player.
Can't find a service manual but learning as I go.
Could you advise on what type of lubricant I should use for a worm shaft please?

    Many thanks

There's probably some threads on here, or other forums, that list what is ok. The concern is some stuff will eat plastic and some stuff like WD-40 is not advised. I think I've used Silicone Spray or white lithium in the past but hopefully others can help.

Thank you. I've done a ton of research and white lithium seems to come up tops.

That is what they seem to use in Radio Control Cars. Those have to be similar with lots of plastic gears etc. When I needed some grease I bought some on eBay from a model shop.

I keep it around for home and car projects along with silicone spray. Make sure you clean the old stuff off, it gets gummy and a tiny crumb can wreck havoc.

You may use Alcohol to clean off the old grease, and also I agree with the others... white lithium grease is great for plastic gears, and is used universally in RC cars, CD/DVD drives, toys, among others. It generally does well on any white plastic gears. You don't want to use any petroleum based grease because petroleum is corrosive and only good for metals. WD-40 has 60-70% petroleum distillates in it according to its MSDS sheet. Another concern with WD-40 specifically is that its consistency makes it prone to wearing off quick.
