Sony's Best from 1979, for me personally, I never saw these out in the wild. Models made after 84 were everywhere but most were very mid-level.

I have had the Technics RS-M95 for a couple of years, now, but it's harder to find the RS-M85.

Very nice! I think some it has to do with the old USA Obsession with going big, none of the smaller decks seemed to get any traction here, the component guys wanted the big decks full of air. I've got a handful out in the shop where the only reason they went big was cosmetics, Marantz was great at doing this.

I'm a big fan of these mid-level JVC's, they look good and mine always seem to work.

Another really cool TEAC from 1979, the data recorders pop up on ebay once in awhile, I don't think they have audio quality heads on them but this is the first time I've seen an audio version of the equipment. $1300 in 78, yep this is a heavy hitter.

I have the Teac C-1 MK II deck. It came with one of the CX-8 bias/ equalization calibration cards. And I may have found a source for additional calibration cards. To say it is well-built would be an understatement.

Wow, it looks like my Nak 700 with all the cards stacked like an old computer. It must have been meant to be easily serviced (and put together) with all those connectors.

Nando, do you display all these cool units? You must have a full wall of "grails."

I have two rooms I use for playing audio systems. Not all of my audio equipment is presently hooked up. Although all the renovations are done on the upstairs of our home, I have to complete the downstairs, which includes a 5th bedroom and recreation room. The rec room will be a dedicated audio/visual room. I have been going through all of the gear I have saved up through the years and having them serviced. I have two good technicians - I lean on - to get the gear serviced. As an example, I just got my Heathkit AA-32 tube integrated amplifier repaired and I had hung onto to it since 2007, or so.

This is the serviced equipment collection, save for about three components. Some pieces are awaiting to be sold on consignment, once I get them to the shop in the next month.

Looks like my shop shelves but I use Home Depot Stretch Wrap to keep the elements and critters out.

Kenwood KX-1060 from 1980, this was on the back cover of High Fidelity so they must have been pushing it hard.

An interesting article in the Gavin Report (over on www.worldradiohistory.com), was cueing holding up cassettes being used instead of carts back in 1986? I might have that Technics but I think it's a very similar model.
