toshiba kt-s3 mkii only makes buzzing noise

    hello there, i have a toshiba kt-s3 mkii and i replaced the belt today, but when i press play all it makes out both headphone jacks is a buzzing sound and no actual music comes through, any advice?

    If there's just a buzzing noise it could be the capacitors died. Did it work fine before? Does it manage to get the tape spinning?
    In some cases broken capacitors can be recognized by merely looking at them, especially if their top seems to be bloated instead of flat (even if just by a little bit), there's a good chance they have to be replaced.

    It did not work before, but it does spin the tape and I checked the caps and they looked fine but i think that's probably the problem since when i disconnected the motor i just got no output at all. thank you for the info and tips.

    Struggling with the same issue on two Sony models myself. Good luck in getting it fixed, whether you're going to recap it yourself or ask someone else to do it!

    I have one S3 that has no sound output, either. My guess it's the capacitors. So far none of the S1 and S2 I have worked on has this problem, only S3. S3 has lower-cost parts compared to S1 and S2.
