folks, in the intro of Netflix-series MINDHUNTER (and in early episodes) they have a nice little reel-2-reel unit, but i can't figure out the make/unit. who knows what it is ?

in later episodes they use a Sony tcd-m5 cassette-deck...

As usual Techmoan has identified the recorder and bought one

That Sony is so cool looking, I was drooling when Techmoan was playing with his. I finally scored a Nak 550 a few weeks ago, the seller never sent it, I got a refund instead.

seeing the prices they ask for those (nice) sony‘s i‘m rather considering a real nagra or stellavox.

even thinking about selling the odd valuable walkman to buy a prof. r2r instead (...maybe a dd100 or dd9 ?)

gosh, we would be bad company - but after all it would be a great base to bring more life into the good old „beer & boomboxes“ thread :drinks

I hope it works for you, it's a great device.
Mine had a number of problems, including the servo motor IC, CX032B which gave me a lot of trouble finding a replacement.
Fortunately, everything is perfect now, the only thing missing is the finishing on the cover where it says sony.

I had the same problem, I got my IC on a Sony TC-440 board. The TC-136sd is also a cheap option to get it.

We were all wrong!!!! It's the TC-5550-2 (JDM). Adam Savage (he loves cassettes, building a TPS-L2 from styrene and owning a Nagra) shows us his stuff. I can't believe I didn't see this when it came out, he gives props to Techmoan.
