There were other LED kit watches in the magazine, it must have been a hot, short-lived trend. They were so cutting edge at one time but like stereo microcassette, didn't last long.

Timex was such a big name, I think I read at one time that just about every American Male owned one. The youngsters might not know but up until the early 2000's, it seemed like every adult male had a watch on all of the time.

I just translated the Sinclair Black Watch ad to English for my own reading, and here it is:

From 1976, too bad James Bond didn't wear one! Cheap for back then, I bet the batteries were worth a few dollars on their own.

The English version of the advert is already on the first page. However while looking for it in Practical Electronics I was surprised at the number of Digital watch adverts. There was even a review of a rival manufacturers watch kit. They really were the latest and greatest thing back then as this advert implies.

And as a bonus a look back by someone who has had one since 1976

The numbers were almost hypnotic, unfortunately I never really loved the gold digital watches and even today they look cheesy. I wonder what was selling back then, I don't think I've ever seen a top ten 70's digital watch list, Techmoan? Maybe a good subject?
