Hi everyone. Ben from San Francisco here. When the first Sony Walkman came out I was in high school on Maui. I just had to have one! Over the years, I must have owned at least a half dozen, very social Walkman devices, my favorite being a super slim model, Aiwa I believe, where one side of the cassette tape was exposed to the elements. Anyone remember what this model was called? Anyway, I'm enjoying browsing the archives here and remembering so may of these life changing devices. Thanks! -Ben
Welcome to the forum. I don't think AIWA had an exposed tape model, the only one I think of is the Toshiba KT-AS10 and the other very similar Toshiba.
Thanks Mr. X. Seeing as it's been 40+ years, it's certainly possible that my memory fails me on this one. I've taken a look at the Toshiba and that's not what I remember. Maybe it wasn't AIWA thought. My memory is of a unit where one entire side of the tape was exposed, the unit itself looking something like an oddly proportioned "L" in cross section. The long leg of the L was where you laid the tape into, with the head unit and controls occupying an almost square short leg of the L. My best friend remembers it the same way but neither of us can recall what it was called, or apparently who made it. Is there a particular forum where you'd recommend I post the question? I could provide a sketch of it.
Yes, just put it in the Walkman Chat Area. I have no idea but there's other members that have seen much more than me. There were also a ton of smaller companies that only got regional exposure.
