Man, it's great to be back on stereo2go. That was one hell of an alien abduction :shock

    Seriously tho -

I feel like I just hit the ground from a 2009 time machine. I can't believe how much the hobby of collecting boomboxes has changed and grown.

I started around 2005 and by 2009 I had over 40 radios in my collection. I was a successful small business person and the money was good. I owned two Sharp GF-777's, a Panasonic RX-7200, Pioneer SK-900, and at least a dozen more Holy Grail units. I was a member of stereo2go and everyone here was awesome.

Then the 2009 global financial crisis hit and I lost everything nearly overnight. By 2010 I had to mass liquidate my entire boombox collection for a criminally low price. I was able to keep my 5 favorite radios. Only two higher-end radios survived - my Sharp GF-515 and my Realistic SCR-8. The other 3 were plain Jane units that had sentimental value.

For years, I couldn't even look at a radio without feeling sick.

In 2022, my buddy bought me a brand new $15 Retekess PR-15 pocket radio. I felt joy. In short, that pocket radio was the gateway to getting back into the hobby.

A few weeks ago I went through storage boxes and dug out my GF-515, SCR-8, GE 3-5252A, Panasonic RX-F4, and my Realistic SCR-9 (the first boom box I bought in 1983). Also went on to eBay and bought a pristine Realistic Minisette 12 and a super clean Panasonic RX-5010 in need of belts.

Expensive radios like the GF-777 are out of reach but man am I glad to have fallen in love with boomboxes again.

Long story short, I am overjoyed to be here.

Well I've been here on again off again and now I'm here again. You may know me by my first name, decentman4you, That I ever used in YouTube with over 800 videos and now I call myself cassette2go with over 1600 videos in that YouTube account and then I have three more YouTube accounts.
And back 2010 was fired from my job and then I didn't work for 8 years except for buying selling, repairing, learning how to repair the radios and then well I won't bore you with that. But I moved in 2016 from Houston to Dallas to live with mother and so now I have all these. Let me show you a few pictures.

And this is called the radio room where? There's just a whole lot of boomboxes?

I am still repairing and unboxing stuff which I still have about 15 boxes that I bought since 2012 that I haven't opened yet so I'm still repairing them and I still have what people call the Grails all the way down to junk I guess but I repair them all or I'm trying to.
Send me an email. We'll talk.

This the only email I use anymore. I've got a c100f j that I recently repaired and other things. Anyway, welcome back from wherever you've been.
Post script, my real name is James Pierce in case you're wondering.

That was a really great re-introduction post Jam_On_It !!!

Yeah so welcome back to the madness. I am relatively new to all this having decided to figure out what the "best" boomboxes are a couple years ago. "Best" for me being a very personal concept that places smaller size, tank like build quality, simplicity and reliability, ease of maintenance AND that special "look" that I am after. In other words a small handful of boxes so it makes my life easier I guess :nodding:

I live in a much smaller place these days so that dictates what I'll be able to buy. I'd say I share your idea of "best". Those are great criteria!

Welcome back Tom ! Several years ago there was a big change to Stereo2go , thanks to @walkman archive who saved the old forum database and @Michelle Knight who embeded it in the current forum you may find your old posts in the "old forum" section , it's not the complete forum but there is a lot , "Jam on it" was also your old forum name ?

My first purchases. All of this arrived today minus the Realistic Minisette 12 which I've had for about a week or so.

RX-5010 - beautiful condition but in need of cassette belts

    Realistic Minisette 12 owner's manual

    Realistic SCR-8 owner's manual

    3 new cassettes from Aliexpress.

    Hey Machaneus!
Before I created my new screen name Jam_On_It, I found the old forums yesterday and *really* searched to see if I could find my old screen name or at least one of my posts. No luck. I think maybe my old screen name could have been Sconner but that's just a guess. One of the admins was gracious and credited me with creating a new boombox and put it in the data base. In short, I had a robotics company called White Box Robotics and I created PC-BOTS. (Model 914 PC-BOT) They had pretty nice built in speakers and could stream music. It was an honor to have them recognized here. Searched for all of that with no luck.

Hiya... well, life has been a bit bonkers for me, and the next few weeks are still going to be busy... but give me a month or two and I'll see if I can come up with a search function that won't overload the forum. I'll have to see if I've still got the database and code here. It'll take a while.

Yes, I'm still around, still lurking... but I've been suffering problems at work for a few years and there's been a clean sweep of management at the top and I just had a meeting with one of them today... and I think a corner has been turned.

Thanks! It would be cool to see some of the old threads for sure!

I feel for you brother. I was harassed at my old job so badly, I had to go on FMLA.
My current job of 6 years has been a true blessing in my life. I hope the tide has turned for you as well.

Hi Michelle , it would be great if you could improve the database functionality , I recall you had some projects going on an update on them would be interesting too when possible. I wish you the best !

Welcome back, it's hard not to love the boomboxes and Walkmans. Here's a link to the old, old, old forum, if you were one of the 245 original members. Not all the threads are visible but you can see the names and subjects.
    https://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/i-found-the-old-old-old-forum.4827/

Then the old forum, I just scroll down and look for names or subject matter, sometimes I use google search instead "sconner site: stereo2go.com" and get better results.

    Hahahaha nice!
Technically it’s the second behind the RX-5010 I got off eBay about a month ago.

HOWEVER, the 3-6000B is a personal Holy Grail unit for me and it is one of the 40 I had to let go back in 2010. It’s the only radio from my prior collection I’ve chosen to replace. So thank you for that.
Back in the day, when I bought my first boombox a GE 3-525A, that 3-6000B was right above it on the shelf at Gee Bee’s. I remember forcing myself not to look at it because I knew it was way more money than I had that evening. So in a sense, I’ve lost that damn radio twice lol. Third time will be a charm :)
