I've been on a quest to find the best way to make new rollers, just found this awesome video. The guy looks like an interesting computer nerd, he's making rollers for his 70's computer/monitor/printer terminal!

Techmoan buys a new JVC Kaboom

To summarise he likes the sound quality, although there seem to be a few ergonomic foobars like needing the remote to tune the radio.

Honestly, I was surprised he was so positive about this thing. Lol I thought it was a lot cheaper looking than he admitted to...

This overpriced piece of garbage could be so much better. As someone commented on the video, JVC took the cheapest off the shelf components to build the system.

    * Stupid backlight for speakers does not react to music. Buttons are not backlit and apparently have no dimples to be operated in the dark.
    * The simple non-motorized top cover is probably for the better, but at least it could be transparent. With the current craze for vinyl record players and visual appeal, seeing spinning CD would be a plus.
    * The display is the cheapest piece of junk, my portable CD player from 1997 shows more info.
    * CDs can be programmed for custom track order, this is a plus in my book.
    * The rechargeable battery pack reminded me a PSU from a Soviet cassette-corder, which could replace six D cells, and you would connect it with a special flat connector, which would be tucked away in when cells were used (see photo). At least in this case one was not limited to a proprietary rechargeable module. I don't think the Soviets invented it, probably copied from some 1970s Japanese machine.
    * Not many audio effects, but Bass boost is there.
    * All functions are not available on the main unit, needs a remote - this is an immediate no go, especially for a portable unit.
    * Overall, looks too cheap.

It is about 15 years old. See iPod models it supports:

    iPod nano 1G/2G/4G
    iPod mini
    iPod (4th Generation) 20G/40G
    iPod photo (4th Generation) 20G/30G/40G/60G
    iPod video (5th Generation) 30G/60G

It uses old iPod connector. Right, it is from 2006 - 18 years old! Nothing wrong with that per se, but it is useless for iPod.

I guess, its best feature are the speakers, but I would not buy it for this reason alone. I can buy a good BT speaker, or I can buy two of them and pair them between themselves so one would work as left, another as right channel. I do not subscribe to his idea that a boombox must have transport for physical media. If anything, a USB port or an SD card slot is enough in my opinion. And BT, of course.

The review was fun. I watch every Techmoan's video, he always finds something to present. I like the tubular design of this boombox, but version 2.0 is sorely needed.

At the other extreme VWestlife seems to have found a new bargain

If the same box comes to U.K. at a similar price I will get one. As someone just commented it is worth the price just as a Bluetooth speaker.

I watched it. Not bad for the price. I got a CD-only boombox from a local thrift store for $5, also a Sony, and is about the same size. Will make a video review and will drop a link to this thread, hoping it will pass for a cool video :)

This is really well done and covers both Walkmans and Boomboxes.
The only thing I didn't recognise was Trapper folders.
In the U.K. Filofaxes making you out as a Yuppie
(who probably also had a brick sized Cellphone) were more the thing.
