Hello, I am looking for some technical advice from anyone who has repaired this issue with the Sony WM-D6C. I recently bought one with no fast forward or rewind functionality, everything else works perfectly and the unit is almost mint.

Based on the research I've done, i believe this is a common issue and is caused by the hardening of grease over 40 years, I suspect this is also the case with my unit. Is this a fairly simple issue to fix for someone with no experience with walkman mechanics or will i need to send it off to an experienced technician for cleaning & grease reapplication?

I am hesitant to attempt to do any maintenance myself as the unit is in such good working order and cosmetically it's almost perfect, it would be such a shame if i damaged anything.

There is a tutorial somewhere on this forum by Valentin that deals with this very issue. The idler wheel gets gummed up by hardened old grease and won't move to the flywheel as it should in FF & RW.
