I lent one of my pro’s to a friend to use and it came back not working correctly, luckily it was one that was requiring maintenance (belts etc) but when I got it back it plays fast and it seems like it’s on all the time until I remove the batteries. Now I do have another in excellent condition, is it worth repairing the old one, keeping as spares? Or just selling as it is? Pretty sure that it’s the last Gen with the head ID numbers ending in 12. Fast forward works slowly but rewind is good. I do go regularly to the UK so an option is getting it repaired their as here in NZ the basic repairs and maintenance is belts and other minor work. And yes it’s the last time I loan any of my gear ♂️ Cheers Kiwinut
Sounds like the wrong power unit may have been plugged in to it. It is repairable but you will need a tech to check it out first to determine the fault. Do you need 2? if not keep it for spares. I used to have 3 x D6C, I have now downsized to 1 since I did not use them that much. I loaned my DD9 to a friend, it came back not happy and parts missing. It has cost me a lot to get it fixed and I am still not happy with it hence I don’t use it anymore. Until I can get original parts to have it fixed properly it’s not going to see the light of day. Like you, I will not be lending out my units again.
As long as it can be fixed I will be happy I would rather have another unit than one just as parts, A shame to have something like that just sitting doing nothing. The broken unit is a Gen 4 and it’s immaculate, apart from the running issues. My other is a Gen 3 and also in absolutely brilliant condition. I may have to bring it with me when I head to England or just post off and pick it up when I get there. Just have to find the right place. Any suggestions? Cheers Kiwinut
You've probably received the same information in @Deb64 PM to you. It's really unfortunate that the speed control IC CX20084 is not protected from reverse polarity damage when the wrong 6V DC mains adapter is connected by mistake. That speed issue and more so the fact the tape transport keeps creeping along until the batteries are removed is indicative of reverse polarity damage. If it is that you're going to need to source a speed control chip from a donor Walkman. The cheaper DD10/11 models I believe used this chip as well. It's in the other collectible DD's as well but no bargains there these days.
