Thanks, Yes, I can confirm it now. Exchange worked fine, unfortunately it wasn't the problem. Most likely a cracked solder joint or broken trace. Tricky to find as I don't manage to provoke the problem anymore. It has been working fine now for a couple of days but I'm sure it will come back. I have nailed it down to after the line out split as line out works. At least I have a DC2 with green headphone jacks now.
Naturally the problem came back but I was able to pinpoint the problem to after the volume pot but before the headphone amp as I still got background noise on the output but no signal. Resoldered pin one on the amp and hopefully that was it.
