Hello everyone, I recently got my hands on a Sony wm-d6 for what I think is a very reasonable price (around 60eur). It almost looks brand new on the outside but it currently doesn't work. The symptoms :
    - No vu meters even in battery check mode
    - No sound on both headphone jacks
    - Tape seems to run fine

    What I did :
    - Cleaned the head with some alcohol
    - Checked the belt
    - Contact cleaner on sliders and buttons

From what I could read on this machine the mute module seems to be the issue most of the time, so I desoldered it, now I get very weak sound, even with the volume turned all the way up.
Is there anything else to look for besides the muting module? I'm willing to throw more money and time at it but first I'd like you guys opinion on this.

    Thanks

Update : I got it to output on the line out jack, but still nothing on the headphone jacks. Anyone got an idea?

If it outputs on line out fine, problem is related to the headphone amplifier.
Would assume the volume potentiometer is working fine, changing the actual volume despite very weak even at max.
Things to check are voltages indicated on the schematic for IC102/202: 6V on pin 6 (power), 3.1V on pin 5, 0V on pin 2, 3V on pin 7.
Potential suspects are C141/241, C140/240 and the ICs themselves. But it's unlikely all of these parts failed at the same time...

Did you do anything do get it to work on line out apart from removing the muting module ?

Besides cleaning and checking contacts no, so I assume removing the muting module got the line out working. I'll have a look at the voltages later this week.

Alright, I checked the voltages and was getting readings all over the place, turns out I'm a massive idiot and had one of the batteries upside down! I put fresh ones in and it came to life. I now have to fix the motor speed and muting issues
