    Hello,

    My name is raph.
Im working in avionics for most part of my life.

I started repairing some walkmans as nostalgic hobby. Back in the nineties I used to own a wm-ex170 and (later on) a wm-ex505.

My goal was to have the same 2 walkmans again, fully restored.
I started of with 3 wm-ex170 models. 1 disassembled and scrapped, just to learn. The other 2 I combined to a working one.
I bought some cassettes and was actually suprised of the sound quality (after getting used to mp3 and spotify for the last 10 years).

Thats how it started. Meanwhile Ive had the chance to purchase a bunch of models.
I disassembled 2 wm-2091 walkmans but found the mechanics of those green button walkmans very crappy. I managed to repair the gears, but got stuck with the noisy motors and probably bad capacitors.

Then I found a walkman ex-501, where I messed up the motor in an attempt to lubricate it (I do not recommend doing this as preventative task for this model, as the gaps between the pcb and rotor are very small, and nearly impossible to reinstall without contact between pcb and rotor).

Now im trying a WM DD33. I recapped it and replaced the center gear following the dummy guide. Its not finished yet, it needs to be reassembled, lubricated and adjusted.

Next task will be finding a recorder that enables me to record my own cassettes. I'm trying to find a restored Akai GX-75mk2.

Anyway, I enjoy working on the walkmans. Just something to learn from. Signed up to this forum as I found it contains many useful threads and graphical guides and lot of expert users.

I don't do too many walkmans which I have done but not to the point where I'm unsoldering and soldering on these little tiny things because. Just is not my forte. However, I've done a lot of boomboxes which I have a lot of room to work in and I'm working on one now and I've made lots and lots of videos as you can witness and or know me better via this link in stereo to go as I've posted all of my video links so you may have seen some of them a lot of people have. Anyway, here you go and welcome to the site.

Welcome to the forum, it's a lot more fun when you can do some repairs. These days everything I find needs some maintanance, luckily I enjoy cracking a few open.
