    Hello all!

New to the forum and cassettes in general, and apologies if I break any rules on my first post.

I am very interested in sending my D6C off to someone who's an expert on these machines because I am not at all confident in my own repair skills outside of a main belt replacement. PM'd Deb on Tapeheads (which I'm not sure if that's allowed there, or here as well) and while I wait for a reply, thought I'd see if I could learn more about how cassette players work from its faults.

So last night the, what I assume is the auto-stop, stopped for rewinding. As in the motor does not seem to stop once it reaches the end of the tape. It makes a scary grinding noise when it tries to rewind the tape when it reaches the end. It also makes the same-ish sound when rewinding during playback. On FF it does seem to work fine since it stops at the end.

I assume its to do with the actual auto-stop mechanism itself, and/or something on the auto-off board. Probably needs all its rubber replaced too.

Would like to hear thoughts before I come home from work and open her up (have only gone as far as the main board previously, will muster the courage to lift it to check the mech).

    Thanks!

The mechanical auto-stop indeed only works in play. I think @Hellfire__ is reffering to the auto off function.

And the problem does look like a cracked table reel or gear underneath. Both can crack.
Gear assembly does NOT need to come out for this repair. Board needs to be tilted and small PLL/auto off PCB needs to be removed also.
