    welcome back @DocP
I was wondering what happened to you. You disappeared for almost 8 years!
I thought your dental practice keeps you so busy that you don't have time to check what's happening at S2G.

Nice to see you back DocP! I have also been away for a while and three months ago I repaired the DD9 again with the belts you sent me a long time ago. They were still in great condition after all those years in the package. And I enjoyed your Happy Mending postcard again :)

Years ago I got this envelope. 1732578107875215285637428257353.jpg
Since then I have transferred those very same belts to that plastic bag you see on top of those walkmans and I'm just curious because I haven't used but a few of them. Are they still any good? Because they're still pliable and all that. I just don't know how long belts can last that haven't been used but that have been kept in air conditioning comfort. So I'm asking this question. Are these still valid for use or should I buy new ones?. Ps. He surprised me by calling me on the phone one day one time only when I lived in Houston where I don't live now because I moved to Dallas. Good times.

That’s why you gotta love S2G the belts may snap but the connections remain - thanks for the very warm welcome back folks - I hadn’t truly left - had to pop a battery back in that’s all

Dear J, Belts usually don’t deteriorate if stored in zip lock covers and in a not too warm environment - if not they turn to a gooey black mess or become ultra sticky and stretch endlessly when pulled instead of being springy taut like a rubber band / worst come worst - don’t worry - I can most probably come to the rescue

Thank you. None of those belts have gone in that direction that you've mentioned above, so I guess they're still all good.

I will share the following observation in relation to belts that I had lately. I have stored two exact the same Walkmans from the same year and still having their original belts for at least 8 years in the same box in the same environment. One was stored in an airtight zip bag. The other one was loose in the box. The belts of the one stored in the zip bag turned into messy sticky gooey. The other one, not airtight packed, had just a lightly stretched but dry belt. Not exactly a scientific study, but I don't store my Walkmans in airtight zip bags anymore. Note that this is different than storing only belts in a zip bag, it is possible that other parts of the Walkman are emitting something that affects the breakdown of the belts.

Interesting observation on storage. I'm not going to install any belts on any machine because once you do and if you don't play it then they can conform to the shape of the belt path as they age and therefore give you additional wow or flutter just because they're not round anymore. Once I make the determination of which walkmans I want to use versus the ones that I want to sell, then at that time I will install belts and either sell or keep and use. But it's better to sell something that's working then to try and sell something that doesn't work because it doesn't have a belt in it. So there we are.

Can I just point out what this marketing genius has just said...."the belts may snaps but the connections remain". Classic DocP.

For those who don't know, DocP is one of the forefathers of the walkman section and deserves respect. I bought belts from him over 15 years ago and I think I still have a few left which I, 15 years later wouldn't hesitate to use.

Great to see your WM-10 avitar again sir, sadly it appears as rarely as mine these days.
