My collection so far is a Sony Discman D-802k, D36, and also on the way a D-11. I also have a technics slxp5 that I was looking for some advice on. I have to rewire the chinese adapter I got for it to 120v instead of 220v. I hope I can get this player working. Down the road Id like to restore the battery pack for it as well. I tried finding an oem adapter for it but that is proving difficult. Thanks for reading.
D-11 is a nice sounding player and a solid brick with 4AA inside the lid and easy to change them out. It was the very first "vintage" Discman I found when I went looking at local pawn shops in 2006. After discovering and reading head-fi.org threads on Discman comparisons I wanted to hear what all the fuss was about. The D-11 sounded much better to my ears than the D-141 that I had at that time. It was in 2006 that I signed up to e-bay just to try and buy some old Discman's... (If I were to do it all over again I would say just save your money and get a single top of the line model that actually sounds impressive. For my ears that would be the D-555 which has a very surprisingly good line out as well. It is an easy player to work on with minimal work needed. It's always the middle gear that needs to be replaced with the $10 3D printed one. Symptom is powers up and tries to play or plays for a few seconds then stops. And 3 tiny SMD capacitors. Search e-bay daily and you should need not pay more than $450 for one that is in decent, or even nice, cosmetic condition. Yes such a low price can still be found. Time of year is critical. Try after Xmas and January especially. Yeah I still look and think of getting a 2nd... gulp)
While I do have a few boomboxes that play CDs, I'm not really into them all that much only because they stopped making albums on cassette so I had to buy CDs and then I had to buy a few CD players to be able to listen to the CDs. And that's my story. PS I also repair cassette bin boxes but if the CD is bad that's it. I don't repair those. I just buy another one cuz they're so cheap and I have one arriving to me today hopefully from Japan. That is a Sony cfd 95 is a short model number. I don't know the whole thing yet or I can't remember. Anyway. Good day
