Hi, I've got a Sony wm-f85 that won't play but fast forward and rewind work. I can see that the two idlers engage to drive the reels for ff/rew but can't seem to see what part is responsible for play function. Anyone who has worked on this model have an idea why play doesn't work, Thanks
This mechanism looks very similar to the SONY WA-8000 which I've restored before. Would check for any stuck gears due to old grease, but even better would be to clean and re-lubricate all the gear shafts. Also it would be helpful to state what exactly doesn't work in play. Does the takeup reel not rotate ? Is autoreverse not working. Keep in mind autoreverse on these is electronically controlled by a solenoid/camgear mechanism. If camgear doesn't end up in right position, mechanism won't work right.
Thanks for advice Valentin, the take up reel doesn't rotate when play is engaged, I will clean and re-lubricate all the gear shafts as you have suggested.
