Hello to all. I'm interested in walkmans (had a few Sony's including WM-EX1) and some blasters also. I haven;t owned any notable ones.

I joined here mainly because I found some info about Superscope portables here. I'll be looking for help and parts for a CRS-2000 at some point, I bought one that took some heavy damage in shipping.

In the meantime I lurk and look. Happy new year to all.

Welcome! You know I love the Superscopes/Marantz Equipment. In the early days of the forum it was some of the most difficult to find equipment, I'd go 1-2 years before seeing one for sale on ebay, now they tend to show up more but it's still great equipment.

Thanks! The CRS-2000 in question was actually a recent ebay purchase that took damage in shipping. There is another up there right now, described as "parts only", but as I'm in Canada the price with shipping becomes cost prohibitive very quickly. I may be able to return it so it might be non-issue. I loved the look of it, probably sounds decent when in working order.

    Welcome!

Superscope/Marantz?! My daily driver is the Marantz 2385 receiver, and I am definitely partial to Marantz gear in general.

I've got an HD-880 Driver on my office floor, just need to refoam it, can't wait to get those monsters out to play.

Shipping damage is such a bummer, some of my stuff shows up damaged but they're so hard to find that I end up keeping all of it.

Hi overmodulated. I also had a classic Marantz receiver from the 70s. Coincidentally I just took it to the shop to have a blown channel repaired, it's a Marantz 2265B. It was a nice reciever, but has been sitting for some time and I have to downsize so once it's running it goes on to someone else. I will shed a few tears because I know I'll never have another, but I'll still keep a couple old favorites to soften the blow.

Hi Mister X, if I have the option of keeping the broken blaster I just might, but as part of the refund process with ebay I am obliged to return it to the seller. Or at least that's my understanding, I was told a shipping label was to be provided. If not, someday maybe you'll see me in the classifieds asking for everything that's currently broken, or a parts machine... HD-880 look kind of neat, not sure if I've ever seen these before. The six sided driver immediately reminds me of the drivers that were in my Time Windows, good memories of those. The web says HD880 are very good speakers, so I hope you get them up and running soon.

They are a nice receiver. I downsized quite a bit also, but I still have a pretty large set up. It is a good thing sometimes. Enjoy your day.

Yes it seems like there’s an epidemic of shipping damage in the US.

I was just looking at a Japanese Site, they place the item in a box and use an expanding foam to encase the whole unit, I'm wondering if you could do that at home with a plastic bag wrapped around the unit.

That would keep the units from moving around, but I wonder how much it costs. Usually I will try to build some kind of foam of styrafoam "enclosure" for an item within a box, with a buffer around that for impact. Sometimes I don;t have the greatest materials at hand though, so a box inside another box is something I've done.
