I don't have many duds up until around 1990, then they started getting plasticy and basic. It blows my mind how far some of these companies fell and weren't able to adjust to the 2000's. I would love to see cell-phone wars between all the old-school companies, imagine an AIWA Cell-Phone Boombox, built in streaming and more.
This is a newspaper ad from 1980 but it's so large we'll put it here! This had to have been big money back then. The ad is a multi-page newspaper insert, very common over here especially going into the holiday buying season.
Never saw many people carrying Boom boxes around over here. Maybe I wasnt looking. That was certainly expensive for 1980.
I saw them more in the locker room playing some pre-game music and on the field during practice. I used to bring my cheap model around with me when we went out skateboarding.
Yep! Those NSX series of Aiwa was quite popular here back in 90s, still plenty of them used are for sale..
I don't know what we had, I saw a bunch more JVC with the wild cannon style speakers. Most seemed to be a ton of plastic, there has to be some nicer ones but I have no idea. The one above looks pretty decent but the rounded edges never appealed to me personally and "cheapened" the look.
Another beauty from 1978, the mics clamp on the handle, hopefully everybody got those NOS mics when I posted them in the mega-sale thread.
1986, don't forget the "Do Up" Speakers! (EDIT) These are buried in the forum somewhere from years ago, I'm pretty sure there are more pages, I'll try to find them again and repost.
