In 1969 BSR were exporting turntables from the U.K. to Japan via the Trans-Siberian railway ! Photo from https://www.blackcountryhistory.org/collections/getrecord/GB149_D-EXP_P_I32_213 At one point BSR https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birmingham_Sound_Reproducers had over 80% of the world market. Apparently the deck used in Crosley record players etc started out as a BSR design for a very low cost turntable. p.s. To me it always looks strange seeing exactly the same BSR deck in a Weltron 2007 as was in my parents cheap Fidelity record player.
That is wild, my earliest Japanese Deck is a Sansui from the early 70's and they did a great job, not sure why they wanted the BSR except that the cost might have been really cheap. BSR's were everywhere here with similar installs to the Welltron and they all looked the same, a very basic, plasticy TT, the platter mat might be the only redemption.
For some reason I love this photo, from 1966. From Funkshau (Germany), the lab looks like a great work enviroment, big open windows, MCM desks and lights and cool projects.
