I don't know if the G08 uses the 2ME-7 mechanism under the soft touch controls. If it does, I suspect one of the erase heads is jamming due to a loose spring that retracts the erase heads carrier. This probably would jam the head retraction system.

If so, and you can remove the panel covering that part of the insides, look for a spring end sticking up that looks out of place.

I think the HS-G08 uses a different mechanism for transport and reversing but that may be an area to look at with the HS-J08 which is the more severe of the two units with this "pulsing" problem.
