Hello, I recently a acquired a TCD D8 The issue simply is this, when I first plugged it in everything was fine I immediately played a tape everything was fine but lost power after appox. 3 minutes and it was plugged in with a dc adapter no issues with my power supply no battery sled is available. but i figure the same would happen weird issue it will come back on for said 3 minutes only when it's been without power for an extended period of time Does this make any sense to you D7 D8 techs and anyone else for that matter? I'm figuring it's not D8 specific but that's because components are all similar to a larger units. just smaller I'm pretty good with the internal mechs themselves but lost with this power issue. any help would be greatly appreciated. -Shawn
I would put the DC adapter under scrutiny. Measure the output voltage under a load. Try another adapter with lower measured voltage. Observe any differences in operation. After that is is the unit power supply that needs testing with, tiresome though it is to repeat, the usual suspicion falling on aged electrolytic capacitors whose values may have shifted etc. That this device can work again after a rest / cool down suggests failing component in or around power supply may be the issue.
Ok. I tried something different. Before that. Thanks so much for your reply. I soldered a battery pack to where the battery sled would plug in. As I don’t currently have a sled. it is working great. the power supply I thoroughly trust. But this d8 Walkman is finicky. Well I’ll see how long it lasts. maybe till the batteries die. So it is something around where the power adapter plugs in. Shawn.
