Hello everyone. I've been active over at Tapeheads for years now, but the Walkman bug has recently bitten my kids so I came to the premier place for portable audio to gain some wisdom and insight. My son would like to commandeer my current personal Walkman, a Sony WM-FS222, so that has reignited my interest in getting a better one for myself so he can have that one.

My current portables: Sony WM-FS222, Pioneer SK-350, Panasonic RS-836S, Sony D-EJ001

Aside from being an entry-level user on the portable side of things I'm heavily steeped into vintage home stereo components. My current setup is as follows: Kenwood KX-7030, Nakamichi CR-1A, Yamaha AX-500U, Sansui SR-535, Superscope/Marantz TDR-830, Teac A-4010, Realistic Mach One.

Glad to be here and look forward to learning!

Welcome! I've always wanted to hear Mach Ones, they were pretty popular back then. A few years ago my neighbor grabbed a pair when she volunteered at trash drop-off day along with a BIC 960. She gave me the 960 but would not let go of the speakers, no idea what happened to them, she didn't have a stereo system.

@Mister X the Mach One speakers certainly live up to (and maybe beyond) the hype. My Dad had a pair for a short time when I was a kid. After getting heavily into audio as a teenager and learning more about gear I decided these were my bucket list speakers. I patiently waited to find a pair of them locally, which took years since rural southeast Missouri certainly isn't a hub for this kind of stuff. Finally a pair showed up at a yardsale about 2 years ago and $80 later I walked away with them. The cabinets are a little rough around the edges, but perfectly intact. Most importantly this is an earlier production run (2nd) that has the rubberized surrounds so they won't disintegrate. They've certainly exceeded my expectations and I have no desire to look for anything else. They sound as good with the volume low as they do cranked up. They definitely shine in the highs which I have tuned down a little bit, but man do they ever hit that sweet spot for me. Everything from acoustic to hair metal they're just awesome!
