Where the apartment complex garbage is placed for pickup I found a fully functional VCR and these 2 boomboxes. I grabbed everything. The VCR just needed a belt and I have many video tapes.
    BUT...
These 2 boomboxes were sitting right there as well. The Sanyo was like new. Just needed it's controls cleaned with deoxit. I changed the belt and pinch rollers anyways. Plays like new.
Sadly the Panasonic 3 piece is in poor shape. The radio plays nice and I replaced the antenna but a set of D size batteries were left in the unit and they leaked and corroded the tape decks. I am trying to get them to move. The aux input works just fine. Either way for a free find I can't complain and I saved some electronics from the landfill.

It's a Sanyo M9902 and it's a basic solid machine. It weighs (without batteries) 8 lbs. Nothing fancy but clear loud sound. Built like a tank. Just needed routine cleaning and it's 37 years old now. WOW!

OK I'm gonna be a geek here but Sanyo made a lot of these. The serial number ends with 620513. That's a lot of M9902's! :praise:

As you say saved from landfill, that is a big thing for me. Plus you got 2 cool units for free!

James, well done. Like T-ster says, you saved it from the landfill and grabbed two classics. It's a win all around!
