    Hi. I bought a national rx-1900.

When I play old tapes from the 70s and 80s it sounds okay but when I play newer tapes like 90s through today the sound is very distorted and one tape from early 90s the sound goes out like a metronome on certain instruments (classical tape) the vocals especially sound distorted as well. Is it just the design of the cassette player that's causing this? Edit. Actually I think it's playing all tapes distorted. I just a couple of tapes where it wasn't so obvious. UPDATE: I changed the belt and it plays perfect now.

Yea, he has a ton of stuff....

Cool unit, I love the Panasonic RX-19XX Series, kind of bulky but built like tanks, I'm glad it's working correctly.

Check your batteries preferably using a battery tester as those apply a load. Pulsating sound can be caused by worn out batteries. The term "Motorboating" is used to describe it. I am wondering if the first couple of tapes sounded good as the batteries had a decent voltage then.

Yea, these little guys burn through batteries, that's why I liked the models with a radio, that kept working after the batteries died.
