    Hi.

I’m not sure if this topic has already been discussed here, but when walking around NYC with a Panasonic RQ-S5V cassette player near cell phone transmitters, which are usually located on top of medium height buildings, there is extreme interference in the audio signal. Does anyone else also experience interference from cell transmitters when listening to their cassette players?

After a little research, I found a few different sizes of RF EMI Shielding Pouches that might rectify this problem? For those who have a better knowledge of this technology, would one of these pouches be effective in blocking or reducing cell transmitter signal interference?

    Thank you

I just dug a little deeper and read that these RF EMI pouches can actually block the cell signals. I’ll order one and let you all know how it works out. Thanks!

Interesting. I have never heard about this problem before. Makes some sense though. Old electronics being prone to mass interference from modern cell phone 5G towers and so forth.

Yes, those pouches are effective as they will render your mobile phone useless when stowed in it.
In the service manuals of several Walkmans I looked at for the DD overview, interference suppression is mentioned.
Here is an example in the WM-DD33 service manual:

Thanks for sharing the example from the WM-DD33 service manual.

Well, I did my test and the EMI/RF shielding pouches/bags do work great! Over the weekend I tested a pouch with a Panasonic RQ-S cassette player near some vicious areas in Manhattan, specifically 6th ave. south near 14th street and Housten st. near West Broadway. In those areas there are growing arrays of cell transmitter clusters upon rooftops. This pouch prevented 95+% of the interference that would normally be heard during cassette playback, if a pouch was not used.

If anyone wants more info, please let me know.

Know the problem well. On my Honda thumper motorcycle I can hear with the wm-ex57 and wm-ex502 exactly how many revs the engine makes due to the interference of the ignition. In contrast, the DD3 and DD9 have no problem at all. Can it be because of the metal case being a good Faraday cage?
