Sonic Youth! It looks like they shoved a cigar in the cassette deck, if you now own this box, it has a place in history.....
An interesting machine from 1971, top buttons and vertical tape orientation. Okay, when the sensors have already been used, or at least soft touch... But how can you organize a trick with a tape mech with a conventional mechanics with such a cassette position. Aiwa TPR-501
Those are neat but I've never seen one in person, I like the "playfull" design better than some of the other brands. Knowing how they loved to have a million moving metal parts, I bet this one looks really neat when the cover is off. Do you own one of these Mystic? I don't remember anybody ever posting a personal unit before.
1981, the great debate and what kind of turned the world on boomboxes, at least in the USA. from The Rocket.
There's some newspaper ads in that thread, I can't remember if anybody ever posted a live one on here before.
Just watching some videos while working and saw Lennon with his Sony CF-580 pop up! How cool is that?
I remember reading (in my searching for CF-550 info) that they (Beatles) had the Sony CF-550. As well as some other well known musicians of the period. So it kinda makes sense the bigger better CF-580 would be with them too
Yep, make sense and they could afford it back in time I guess... Was an expensive machine.. Would be great to know what other boomboxes Beatles had, now it appears 2 Sony's and what else? The Beatles is my fav band of all times, and now I think forever, thanks to my elder sister...
I'm sure it was as life-changing for musicians, just like me as a little kid, to have an easy way to record audio.
That didn't take long Mystic! I have to do it the hard way and find the lessor known AKA, the Radio Shack Realistic Minisette III. This was in the RS 1974 catalog but I think AIWA (TPR-501) was released in 1973. Of course the USA Version has to be boring black. As Mystic stated, the transport is sideways compared to the keys, I tried opening it but some of the tiny screws are stuck, even with JIS screwdrivers. I do love the strap handles, the internal antenna and how can you resist the world's smallest level meter. AIWA saw a huge market for portable cassette players and they started putting out some outstanding design around this time. https://audio-heritage.jp/AIWA/boombox/tpr-501a.html This guy has one of the best AIWA Boombox Threads on the internet, hopefully he doesn't mind us borrowing this NOS photo of his, Thanks! https://oldaudio.by/forum/audiokassety/209-kassety-aiwa He did borrow one of my photos so I'm not sure these are all his boomers.
