Ha. My name is Franky and I'm in a bit of a pickle.

I am working on my first ever Walkman (the WM-FX43) and struggling more with this project than anything prior. Everything I play on it sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks, and adjusting the speed pot doesn’t seem to make a noticeable difference. I’ll admit that I’ve mashed up the sensitive plastic with my screwdriver at this point (which is heartbreaking in its own way) but it DOES still turn. I found the exact belt replacement on fixyouraudio.com and I do not believe that this is belt-related.

Is this thing cooked? I really want to get to the bottom of what’s going on!

    Thanks for your time.

Elementary question, but: is the belt fitted correctly?

It is! Checked multiple sources, including the service manual.

Welcome to the forum! This area doesn't get much looks, it you post in the Walkman Tech Section you'll get better answers. The tape speed issue tends to come up from time to time.

Thank you! I was trying to follow the rules by making my first post a sort of introduction...but I will post over there and see what happens! Appreciate you!

A belt is not likely to be the problem. What has been noticed in other models which can apply here as well is the solder join to the speed trimmer bight be broken the pot if carbon can break down (crack) also too high a speed can also be the result of a broken FG wire- the servo take a sine wave signal from the flywheel to regulate speed- these little wires can break off- an oscilloscope is used to check the servo chip. The other thing is if power of reverse polarity has been plugged in the servo chip can be destroyed. just some ideas.
