Bought a used WM-2 locally and have been trying to get it working. Repaired a crack in the PCB and replaced the belt and got it running, however, the FWD lever assembly gets stuck on the center gear and does not slide into place. If I push it myself, it locks into place. I took the whole thing apart, cleaned off any old gunk, put it all back together and it’s still doing the same thing. I even bought a junk WM-2 off eBay for parts. Alls it needed was a belt change to get it working, but it’s doing almost the same thing. I even switched the levers between the units with no success. What am I missing with this piece?!

I haven’t work on one of these in a while, but I think there is a catch or hook on the big gear that moves the yellow part over. These can round over with use I believe. You may need to ‘sharpen’ the catch or something. Hope this helps.

Thank you! I think that was spot on what happened (at least with one of the devices). I took a nail file and went over the front side of each catch 2-3 times just enough for it to start working again. I also put some lube right on each catch to help and its working again. Unfortunately the other seems to be a different issue. When the play button is pressed down, it’s not pushing the assembly far enough so that the gear catches it. I’ll have to play around with it a little more.

Yeah, probably a similar issue. These are conical switches on a post that also can wear or bend a bit with a lot of use. They do come apart. I am sure you can find the culprit.

There are obviously lots of time related issues to fix (belts, lube, caps, corrosion, etc) but it is interesting to think that this is likely the issue that happened after a lot of use in the early 80’s and someone gave up on it and put it in a drawer.

If I’m following your issue correctly, I had a similar issue with a WM-5. Documented in the forum here. For me, ultimately it was a slightly loose belt. Belt was new but possibly not correct size. Took me a while to realize belt was slipping on the motor. Loss in torque due to slipping belt prevented the center gear from moving the arm into position. Just tossing out another possibility.
