I'm trying to track down the model number of this Discman ESP. As you can see, DISCMAN ESP is printed atop the device, aside smaller text that describes the player's features. Comparing it to other pictures of Discman ESPs online, all I could find are pictures showing DISCMAN ESP printed in one line across the depicted players, with the smaller text that describes the player's features BELOW, not on the same "line". So I thought, maybe an AI would get better results. But, nope, neither Claude nor ChatGPT could find a matching image. Claude suggested it might be a "regional variant". Anyway, I have no idea what model of Discman this is. Do you?
the 232's along with 235's almost never pop up on ebay compared to the d-131's and d-141's but is almost the complete opposite on japan auctions. Part of me believes the D-232 line sold better in japan. maybe its just how common it is, or if its just how its a design focusing towards entry level, but the D-131 has a look that always bores me to death, nothing bad about it sounds because i dont own one yet but if you put this player put a black and white filter it would just stay the same. Even with that, other sony tech and other discman like my d-33 have a bits of unique design elements compared to the D-131 line. Maybe this one is an exception though! its still for sale on Buyee right now for anyone curious
Interesting co-branding! I posted some foreign car ads from the 70's that had free portables if you bought a car.
