Hi all! Really hoping for some help from some experts. I bought a like-new PX820 player from Japan. Naturally when it arrived it didn't work! Always the case. Anyway I've given it too a local hifi repair man (old dude with an incredibly cluttered workshop). He's had it for 9 months... It's killing me. Anyway, today I called and he said he's taking a break from it. He's got it to switch on, changed the belts and caps, put a new chip/amp in, but now the problem is that audio only come out of one earphone. Service manuals are impossible to find for this thing. So I was wondering if there any things he could look at that I could forward to him? I just want this back, it's been too long!
Sounds strange from the first place… 9 months… If hes is electronic engineer then… Its must to clean all the switches inside and if that doesn’t help then he have to track where that signal of missing channel is lost. Probably there are some damage on the pcb. Cheers
Haven't worked on this model before, so not sure what is the reason capacitors were replaced. If caps leakead on the PCB, it's very likely there are damaged vias which need to be repaired. Simplest thing to do (assuming the technician has an oscilloscope) is test the signal path from head to headphone jack and see where the signal is lost. If not (and again assuming there was leakeage), just check continuity of vias in suspect areas.
Yes, I can't believe it's taken so long. But he's the only guy in the area, so beggars can't be choosers. Thanks so much for this. I'll forward it on, maybe he's already tried but it's worth a try.
