Cant remember the context for taking this back in lockdown!, but I didn't see any of these in the thread so far...
Yea baby! Those are so cool, they don't show up over here, I think cassette2go has one similar. I'm dying to know what the car is! I thought all the big bumpers were only over here, I'm guessing 70's, maybe a Capri?
Excellent guess, the Capri remained in production in Germany until 1986. This is one of the very last ones which I owned since 1990 but sadly, had to sell in 2022 as like Boxes, I seem to be ending up with too much stuff (and too many Capri's!)! That Crown CSC 656 has no real value, nor following, and is a very quirky box. As a youth in the early 80s, we always took one on the swim team tour bus and so it is held in high esteem for me.
If shipping wasn't silly money I'd glady help lighten the load. We only had a 70's version of the Capri over here, hatchback coupe but it didn't last long. With the internet we're able to see all the cool cars and variations you guys had, we mostly had big cars with big engines, sometimes they'd do something special but Corvette and Pontiac were so scared of losing market share to smaller faster cars from the other GM Brands, nothing affordable or peppy came out. Unfortuntately, the Japanese "Pocket Rockets" took over in the 80's and GM didn't have a small car response.
When I spent a lot of time in the UK I loved reading car magazines, it was so interesting to find out how the originally US motor company, I'd say one of whales of motoring from the beginning of XX century, Ford, became a huge part of the European car history including of course England. However Ford Europe shall we say was the world in itself all that time, a kind of a separate world from the US one. And I loved reading stories about Capri's heritage in "Practical Classics" UK issues.
Mates, where are you? Good morning and have a great weekend! It has been Radiosilence for a few days here.. I myself - my heart hasn't been at ease for a while but as Rah-rah once mentioned: "Never mind. On with the show.."
I'm still here! It's a big holiday over here, most people take a long week off and relax at the beach. If I wasn't really busy digging ditches I'd be somewhere but I'm working like a dog.
Take care of yourself! Age has been taking it's toll step by step - I started noticing that a few years ago when I made it past 50 and I don't like it... But "Never mind. On with the show.."
Found in a Taiwan Newspaper from 1965, a few short years before radio cassette started showing up. Crown was big into portables early.
A Crown CRC-2500F R2R Boombox, another very rare R2R with a radio, Crown made a few but I've only seen a handful. I wonder if the Beat Cut Switch was part of why, did recording with the radio mess with the sonics?
Nice interesting machine! With FM! Found some pics of it from some old ebay listing. Check out the tuner scale. It was not only JDM. Any idea from what year it was?
There's really not much information available about it yet. I've put it on my wishlist. Perhaps there's a date on the motor mechanism or somewhere else inside. In any case, it's a unique boombox. I think it's very cool and special. Looking at the design, I wouldn't be too surprised if it's a post-1966 machine tho, even though it uses reels.
