for the speakers you have to remove the cover behind then unscrew the screws at the bottom to release the gray speaker grille

This year got this TOTL Harman Kardon set together. Wasn't planned but happened anyways.
It started out with the PM665VXi amp. A customer brought it in about two years ago cause it had 'low' volume. Well this amp was blowing fuses as soon as power was applied. Gave my customer an estimate on costs and he never ever picked the amp up....
At some point in its life some 'tech' had a go at it but failed. Totally took it apart, found one power transistor that was shorted and two pairs of power transistors that shouldn't be in this amp.
In the pre driver board found two transistors that had a short, four transistors that shouldn't be in this amp, two shorted resistors, for resistors that were way out of spec.
Luckely i had two original pairs of power transistors in my inventory rest i replaced with original Toshiba transistors as intended by HK. All new caps for the driver board, measured all other transistors and now she's playing again. Still to do is replace all push switches on the frontpanel they are at the end of their lifespan.
This amp was treated badly by previous owners...on the backside of this amp you will find two slide switches putting the amp in 4 ohm or 8 ohm mode depending on the impedance of the speakers. These switches actually switch the secondary windings of the power transformers, 4 ohm mode = 80V AC, 8 ohm mode = 100V AC.
Still need to replace the trimpots for DC balance and Idle current, the values i measure on these is not constant so i will drop in some multiturn presicion pots.

So with the amp now working, and i really like the design of this set, got my hands on a cheap, good looking TU-911. Only a few days later a nice looking TD292 showed up on th local market place. Only flaw that this deck has is that on section of the VU leds is no longer lighting up and they are around the 0 dB point. The leds are driven in pairs of three which are connected in series. They are extremely small leds with wire as thin as a hair, if one connection breaks you loose three leds..but this deck will mainly be used for playback, for recording i have far better decks....ofcourse the CD491 is the one i really want for this set to be TOTL.

So now to get the most difficult component to get over here in Europe, a cd player. Looked for months for HD200, HD400, HD500, HD800 since these are really hard to source. There is a HD500 for sale here in NL but this shop wants more then €500,- for that player....out of my budget...last year not single HD200 or HD400 in silver showed up locally. Last week an advert showed up by guy selling a complete set incl. a HD800. All was working in that set except the HD800.
Send him a message if he was willing to sell it seperatly and made him a decent offer for a non working player. He accepted and took great care in shipping me the player.
Problem was that it wouldn't turn on at all. Opened it up and couldn't see anything out of order. So applied power and after 10 mintes a dot appeared on the lcd...after another ten minutes two dots and i could open the drawer. Put in a cd and it gave an error on the first three goes. Then it could read the TOC and fuck it was playing!
Sound was still very distant but after another ten minutes the sound was coming back and eventually it plays and works as it should now. Also grabbed an original HD800 remote from eBay and the set is complete now.
So will give this player a total recap. Had this behaviour with other players too, if they are old and sit for months/years the caps slowly charge. My old Philips CD160 also took 10 minutes to 'wake up'

I should be picking up this good looking combo later this evening, or tomorrow.
Very unusual in the UK, it’s a (Toshiba) Aurex SB-A45 amp and ST-T35L tuner. I don’t know much about Aurex as a brand - other than it being a supposed high-end Toshiba product. Thought I’d post it up here in case any far flung members may have come across something similar!

I had to look through ebay listings of Harman Kardon, they had some nice stuff in the 80's and 90's but I never saw any of it until the early 90's when the series with the blue lights showed up and was very popular over here. I've never seen the components above in person. I've got at least two older 70's receivers back in the shop that I definately need to fire up one of these days.

Cool slim-line's Docmeister, I also have a handful of slim equipment but it was hard to find and none of my sets are complete, just random units from different brands. Unfortunately they look goofy without their matching components and when a unit comes up, it's big money.

This looks the same as the one sold by Radio Shack under the Realistic name. Cute portable cassette recorder.
