    Hello
I'm from Lancaster, UK and have inherited a lot of my dad's old kit, much of it in need of repair. He was a sound recordist so I've now got more reel to reel, DAT, Betamax/F1 and cassette machines than anyone could ever need. I've mended a couple of the DAT machines (TCD-D3 & 8, Portadat) and I'm currently on the WM-D6C. I've joined this forum, initially, to find out if the speed problems on WM-D6C are always due to the cx20084 chip or sometimes due to the associated chips. The motivation for repairing all the kit is because I've also inherited his recordings, on different media, which it's nice to slowly work through. Lots of dummy head recordings.
    cheers
    Jonnie

Welcome, that sounds like a fun process with listening to the recordings being the prize. I'm like that with some of my R2Rs, I'll rebuilt before listening to the tape that was mounted on the unit.
