I recently purchased a Technics RS M14 tape deck for recording since I don't have a tape deck. I could have used my Sony Walkman GX654, but the recordings were short (because I don't have the original AA battery holder) and the results weren't very good. for starters, i wanted to buy some blank tapes to record experiments on because i bought the deck from a flea market with a description that was not tested before i repaired them (this tape deck only needs to have the rubber replaced and the tape head calibrated). I stumbled across 2 blank sony tape, cdix-i and sony HF-S. I think that two cassettes were good but i only have a small budget of that. What do you think which the best cassette?
At equal (or close to equal) price, choosing the HF-S is a no-brainer. Generally, judging from the prices on eBay and the general sentiment in forums around the world, I would anticipate that the HF-S most of the time is the better deal of the two. Speaking from experience, as I've come across most variants and vintages of the "big brands" over the last few years and although I've never come across and actual CDix I, I would speculate that the CDix I most likely did not have the same value or quality as the HF-S most of the time. This would especially manifest itself when it comes to the accuracy and performance of the shell construction and total value for money (incl. the cover, J-Card, labels etc.), but my central point is that I also suspect that the tape stock generally used in the CDix I, was of more variable quality than in the HF-S (they probably both basically contained the same general formulation). So, even if the exact same tape stock could have been used in the CDix I sometimes, most of the time it would have not (meaning old(er) or lower quality stock was used). This just make business and market sense. Just my 2ยข ... Snacky
