    Hi everyone,

I ordered a new belt for my WM-7.
I disconnected the wires around the left hand side of the board near the motor to make it easier.

All went well, i replaced the belt and resoldered the wires. Now its turning on and the batteries are getting very hot when i put them in!

Im attaching pictures of the board area i took before desoldering and after. Im not sure whats going on :(
    Any advice appreciated.

    Thank you!!!!!!

Can't see anything wrong at first glance.
Batteries getting hot means one thing: there's a short circuit somewhere.
You have to find where that short is coming from: maybe a battery wire got pinched and is touching something else, etc.
Pay attention as something else is getting hot too (this is where the short is) given this.

Electrolytic capacitors can also fail short-circuit (although very rarely). For example C305, C306 are connected directly to the main rail.
Does Dolby NR work ? DC-DC converter only powers the Dolby circuit.

thank you Valentin...I think it was a short somewhere. Power is back! Put it all back together...Forward and reverse play work...Fast forward works, and rewind too...But the strange thing is if i lay the walkman on its back rewind stops and as i slowly turn the walkman over rewind starts to work.

Also the same thing happens when playing. If i lay on its back the sound starts to wobble.

    Any ideas please?

You need to identify that short and fix it.
Fact problem re-appears when unit is turned on its back means gravity affects it.
I would start by running the unit without the back cover installed, see if that makes a difference.
Then you can try slightly looseing the PCB screws, see if that makes any difference, etc. See if pressing on the PCB in some areas can reproduce the problem.
