Hi all, Thought id share something interesting... My beloved father passed away recently and he really got me into Hi Fi and all things related. I inhertied all of his collection including Sony Walkmans. I appear to have a D6C and a very very early D6...Both are in as new condition. Now the strange thing i noticed is that the D6 looks a bit different in that the front and sides are shiny but the D6C is matt black. Im attaching some pictures. Hope you enjoy...
Sorry for your fathers loss certainly everytime you use them you'll remember him. D6C and its versions has many differences externally and internally in comparison with the initial D6. That model was a lot of years in production and had improvements over time not strictly sound quality wise. I have a D6 and several D6Cs, many think myself included that D6 in a way sounds better , never measured them but clearly to my ears it has better resolution at highs and higher dynamic range overall (in all fairness Dolby C excluded ) , what's your opinion ?
I notice one has 2 headphone jacks and the other has a single hp jack. The 2 has a blue stop/eject the 1 is white. Beside the volume control the model name is dropped on one and the special feature wording is different and beside the MIC jack the slider wording is now different.
The D6 has the dual headphone sockets, the D6C has one headphone socket and a dedicated line-in and a line-out.
I have a technician repair kit for Superscope Marantz PMD Field Recorders from the 80's, it has some cosmetic pieces in it. Since these were mostly professionally used, I could easily see the local Sony Tech having some extra shell pieces when units were brought in for calibration. I don't know, but like other engineering equipment, did people used to bring these in for calibration and a sticker? I could see for legal cases and maybe data applications but I've never seen a certification sticker on a portable.
