My daily driver (until my D3 arrives) Sound revitalization is a really neat feature, really nice on home-recorded tapes for boosting treble. The mega bass is beefy, though I do wish this model had the selector for low, mid or high for the MB. Groove I've found totally useless, sounds like those bassboosted meme videos that were popular in the 2010s. Auto reverse was a neat feature when it was working on my model. Funny enough, on my Walkman, it only plays properly in reverse.
What is the issue with playing forward? I have EX-672 model and I found just a bit increased flutter when playing in ff, which I cant hear when playing in reverse. The only thing I was thinking replacing was the pinch roller and then retest because I already cleaned the capstan/bearing and replaced the belt. Ah yes, and I went with clear case
Yeah it’s an increase in flutter, tapes will sound wobbly at random intervals. I’m not too handy but I’ll try replacing the pinch roller eventually
I can't guarantee this is the issue with either mine or your unit, could be somewhere else in the mechanism as well but I just ordered new pinch roller from fixyouraudio just to rule out the potential source of the issue. Also, everything you said I agree 100% regarding the sound of this unit. It really sounds good and even Normal tapes without dolby has almost no hiss. RV mode is excellent balance while other two GRV and MB are maybe ok with some bad earbuds but if you are using decent over ear headphones, both modes are totally useless.
In fact my first Walkman which started my collection. Until recently you could pick one of these up for under $200 and they have everything you'd want on a compact cassette player from Japan. Auto reverse. Quality sound, metal construction and came with a corded remote.
Bought mine for 90€, in exceptional condition, except the internal battery corrosion and no remote headphones. It is spotless , so new belt and even the metal housing is in mint condition, I really wanted to try the transparent case. Mesmerizing for the eyes, the mechanism is dead silent, just looking at it and listening the sound is just
I bought mine for A$17 years ago when my friends thought I was crazy. Why would you want a cassette player they said?. Now they look at the prices DD Walkman sell for and can't believe how much interest there is in retro tech and the prices these fetch. I have recently purchased the last HiMD Walkman Sony made. The MZ-RH1 in black. Its an awesome sounding recorder able to make full PCM CD quality recordings. Had the dim OLED display replaced with Sir68K's aftermarket LEDs and it is like new again. I think MD Walkman will become collectors items too.
I know. Was thinking more about the format. Even the Atrac standard play sounds really good and those Walkman remain plentiful and relatively inexpensive.
