Is there any reason I shouldn't buy a Panasonic RQ-SX1V that looks to be in good condition? I'm fine with doing a belt change and such, but my main concern is whether or not these are considered reliable or prone to any problems along with high wow and flutter (despite the belt and pinch rollers being good/high quality).

For Panasonics like this model, a belt change entails de-soldering the board to gain access to the belt.
If it's in mint condition with no corrosion or whatsoever, it'll probably be safe, since it uses the AR90 IV mechanism.
From what I know, this mechanism solved the bent pad lifter mechanism issue of the previous generation and is quite reliable.

The thing with Panasonic cassette players, is to avoid the ones utilizing the infamous AR10 mechanism, as they are prone to wow and flutter issues even after servicing.
Not to mention this design lacks anti-rolling, which worsens its already lackluster performance.

SX1V is a newer generation without the pad lifter and associated problems (too high roller pressure).
While the newer AR90 IV mechanism is more reliable than the older generation, doing a basic service (capstan bearings and motor lubrication) is still highly recommended.

Fact it's looking good is a plus, but not a gurantee it has little wear.
From the older pad lifter series seen quite a few that looked mint cosmetically but had more wear than beaten up units.

As a conclusion, if the price is right I would go for it.
