Hello everyone, and thanks in advance to anyone who can give me a hand

I'm trying to fix this old Sony Walkman; I recently replaced the main drive belt, but I'm still having a problem with the autoreverse, which is behaving bizarrely.

The sound quality isn't terrible, but it's certainly shaky (I'd give it a 5 out of 10). I'm attaching three photos and the results of a usage test where I highlight what the issue is.

Pressing play with NO TAPE INSERTED
    Direction FWD
    Continuous play OFF
    WM keeps playing

Pressing play with NO TAPE INSERTED
    Direction REV
    Continuous play OFF
    WM stops after 1 second

Tests with the SIDE A of a new, pre-recorded tape inserted:

Trying to play the beginning of SIDE A
    Direction FWD
    Continuous play OFF
It plays the end of SIDE B
    Sound is slightly distorted (w&f)

Trying to play the beginning of SIDE A
    Direction FWD
    Continuous play ON
It plays the end of SIDE B
    Sound is slightly distorted (w&f)

Trying to play the end of SIDE B
    Direction REV
    Continuous play OFF
It plays the beginning of SIDE A
    Sound is slightly distorted (w&f)

Trying to play the end of SIDE B
    Direction REV
    Continuous play ON
It plays the beginning of SIDE A
    Sound is slightly distorted (w&f)

Does anyone know what it might be?

Want to make sure I understood the problem correctly. The unit does not play FWD, only REV ? And W&F is high ?
Does the unit switch FWD/REV by using the direction change switch ?

You might want to check direction switch S311....could be that this switch is not making good contact
