I was able to get a new walkman - you can read in this thread https://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/sony-wm-ex652.11033/#post-90206
Is there anybody, who ever had problems to operate the keypad of these WMs ?
It seems, that the WM sometimes play wrong direction or speed. When i use remote, all is correct.
And when i push the switches directly on the board, then also all is OK.
Special features work precisely with the pad too. So i think, it`s a mechanical issue.

Given everything works ok with the remote, the problem can't be mechanical (meaning related to mechanism).
However it is possible there's too much clearance between the case switches and the actual electrical switches.
You can try adding some electrical tape over the micro switches too see if the problem goes away.

It's a bit unclear what play in wrong direction/wrong speed means. Does the unit have an A/B switch ?
Wrong speed means it plays at high speed (like roller not engaged) ?

The `wrong direction`means - normally , when push `Play` after inserting cassette - Side A is played. This walkman sometimes playes side B. The `wrong speed`means, normally when push `Play`, or `Play` again to change Sides, a Side is played. This walkman sometimes goes Fast Forward. Or, when you push `Stop`, Side is changed - and so on, all strange combinations of wrong functions. But pushing special functions in combination with `function button`work fine, correctly fitting to the related buttons. It seems, that, when you push a function button, another button is triggered. And i meant the mechanic of the service shield for the functions, not the mechanic of the tape drive. There are little plastic cones on the back side of the shield, that transfer the pressure to the electric contacts on the board.
I solved the problem with selling the WM. No time to get angry. Also because i wasn`t able to use remote with my own Headphones .
