So finally my belated xmas gift came in from Japan...this Sony MDR-2 was available as an accessoire to the newly introduced Trinitron televisions back in the 80's. The remote is an inline one and can control flipping channels but no volume control.... Came across it when scrolling through pages with headphones. It was advertised as Sony Trinitron headphones without any mentioning of the model number. Even i had to look twice. Pretty rare headphones nowadays and also not many photo's of this model are around.... Doesn't sound to bad either......
Oh yeah, those are beautiful headphones. I really like this early 1980s design. It's a bit like a heavy-duty 3L2. I've never seen this one before. Great score!
Neat, I love the oddball stuff, channel changer on the cord is so made for a Wall Street 80's Movie. I'd love to see some of the "war rooms" of Sony tossing out ideas.
Yeah Sony from the 70's and 80's (bit of the 90's) has lovely designs but also practical. Finally a light weight headphones was on the market, very handy if you're doing audio out in the field. Was my best deal from last year...nowadays the prices for MDR-2 are going through the roof....let's say if you're a hunter you will find awesome deals and i paid peanuts for this headphone compared to the current market value. Always wanted this model...few days later also found a new in the box JDM MDR-3, see photo I can see this headphone featuring in some 80's movie..."what does this button do?" MDR-2L3TV and MDR-3 JDM release
Even the old packaging is saveable, I remember hating blister-pacs when they started showing up in the late 80's.
This MDR-3 looks like NOS, only small crease on back of box but otherwise near mint. And that for a cardboard box from the early 80's....i was stunned when i unpacked it......this box differs from the export market box which has a transparant front. Specs on this box are in Japanese. Makes me sometimes wonder what happened to this headphones that they were never used for more then 40 years......
They have the Japan Times Newspaper over on archive.org, after looking through 100's of issues it was pretty clear that electronics for tourists was a huge business. Or, not a lot of people use headphones with a TV set, maybe NOS stock or somebodies set they never used. I had a new Bose Noise Cancelling Phones I never opened, ended up giving away to my Japan Boombox Mule. I never needed them.
