After more then 40 years there is a big change that the foam in yor WM-R2 has perished and you can hear the mics dangling inside the housing. Atleast the one i got was dangling away.
So how to get into the mics?

First remove the frontpanel of the walkman.
Now undo three screws that hold the mic assembly to the walkman and gently pull it away.
Now remove the beauty plate covering the three screws and remove the two on the outside, leave the middle screw in.

Now you can lift both mics from the housing, gently wiggle and pull upwards.
Both mic units are mounted onto a metal bracket that isolates the mics from the walkman.
To remove the mesh, first straighten the protruding piece of mesh on the backside top
On the underside of both mic housings you will see a screw, undo this and it will release the mesh at the underside.
Now you can pull the mesh from the housing and acces the mic unit.

Internal bracket from mic housing, this also clamps the mic mesh in place.

New foam around mic unit, behind it is another piece of foam

Foam inside mic mesh, this will clamp the mic unit nice and snuggly free floating in its housing.
